With the downtown post office slated for closure, Mayor Menashe Miller is working on keeping a 5 PM pickup box downtown.
Mayor Miller tells TLS he has reached out to the postmaster to secure a location downtown for the 5 PM pickup, instead of having customers run to Industrial Park for the last pickup of the day.
Currently, the 5 PM pickup boxes are situated at the post offices on Clifton Avenue and on Swarthmore Avenue. The Swarthmore Avenue location next week will become the only post office in Lakewood due to the sale of the Clifton Avenue building.
Mayor Miller says he hopes the postmaster will designate one such pickup box in the downtown for the convenience of the last-minute customers. The process will require the approval from the district manager, Miller says.
In the meantime, the 5 PM pickup box will be kept open until a decision is finalized, the Mayor said.

Way to go Menashe! I was concerned about that, thank you mayor miller.
What’s going to happen to the building? Hope it will be put to some use for ALL Lakewood people.
Thank you Mayor M.M.
Keep us posted (no pun intended).
i believe swarthmore is open until 6:30 for outgoing mail
Everyone has to stop worrying so much about this issue. USPS isn’t that important anymore these days.
I hope a restaurant opens there next
