PHOTOS & VIDEO [UPDATED 12:50 AM] Hundreds Saturday evening braced the cold and paid tribute to fallen Officer Chris Matlosz. The event – marking the first year anniversary since his cold-blooded murder – began with a procession out of the Blue Claws Stadium and arrived to Red Square where hundreds were gathered to remember the fallen hero.
Many off-duty officers from the neighboring Townships came to pay tribute as well.
The crowd heard several speeches before lighting a candle in memory of Chris, and watched as a plaque was unveiled in Chris’s memory. The plaque will be hung in Police Headquarters, alongside the plaques remembering officers Richter and Preslar.

The event concluded at approximately 8:00 PM.
Great pictures. I hope Kelly and the rest of Chris’s family, blood or not, find peace. RIP Officer Matlosz
Bless his soul. And may Gd protect all law enforcement officials in their dangerous work. Amen!
I was very happy to see all members of our community attend the vigil! It’s unfortunate that it takes a tragedy to bring us together but – alas! – such is life… May G-D bless Kelly and the family of Officer Matloz and may they know no more pain or suffering…
Who would believe that it is already one year!? How sad and tragic. May his family and comrades stay safe and feel some solace with the fact that the monster responsible will never see the light of day agaon!
RIP 317 <3
Always & forever in our thoughts and prayers
G-d bless the LPD!
"Always safe, Extra safe"
I heard that the event was originally going to be called for 6pm but was then changed to 7pm to accomodate the entire community.
Yes, it was truly a sight. The event was represented by the entire lakewood community all coming together to pay tribute to the memory of the fallen officer.
Officer Chris, you died serving us, thank you. its been a yr and the pain on your friends face’s was hard to watch last night. As a real lakewooder, it was awesome to see everyone united together, standing strong, holding on this past year in your honor. May our town continue to stay strong together. May god watch over everyone of us. To our police force, thank you for continuing to step in the line of danger, every single day, so we feel our town is safe. As Kelly keeps saying “Always safe, Extra safe.” Stay warm stay safe my friends.
May he rest in peace, and may his family and friends love, respect, and cherish their fond memories of him. He is their love, and he is our hero.
God bless all of the men and women that serve the public, and the families and friends of these hero’s that pray for their safe return. We include all of you in our prayers.
