A two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Commonwealth Blvd and Beacon Street in Manchester on Saturday, left three people injured, police say.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers observed a red 2017 Subaru Legacy facing west on the front lawn of a residence on the eleven hundred block of Beacon Street with extensive front-end damage.

Additionally, officers observed a silver 2006 Honda Accord facing north also located on the front lawn of a residence on the eleven hundred block of Beacon Street with extensive front passenger side damage.

The investigation revealed that the Subaru was traveling east on Commonwealth Boulevard when the Honda struck the Subaru near the front end of the vehicle.

The driver of the Subaru was identified as, 77-year-old John Biruk and the passenger of the Subaru was identified as, 78-year-old Shirley Marziali, both residents of Manchester.

Both the driver and passenger of the Subaru sustained non-life threatening injuries and were transported to Community Medical Center for treatment where they are both listed in stable condition.

The driver of the Honda was identified as, 19-year-old Marcos Flores of Lakewood, NJ. The passenger of the Honda was a 17-year-old female who sustained serious injuries and was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center by Robert Wood Johnson Barnabas Health’s LifeFlight medevac helicopter and is is currently listed in stable condition.

Assisting at the scene were Emergency Medical Technicians from the Manchester Township Division of Emergency Services, volunteer firefighters from Ridgeway and Manchester Fire Company.

Also assisting at the scene were Paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and Accurate Towing.

The investigation into the crash is still ongoing, but at this point, disregard of a stop sign by the driver of the Honda appears to be the primary contributing factor. This crash is being investigated by Ptl. Brendan Brush of the department’s Traffic Safety Unit.

  1. So much for every older person needs to be retested/have their license taken away after a certain age. Before you say “this is only one accident” ask if the scoop can get a little more information on their monthly accident report so that it identifies the ages of the drivers of accidents in Lakewood. Guarantee most will involve drivers under the age of 40 (and yes I know this accident wasn’t in Lakewood).

  2. I agree to some extent, some seniors should not be allowed to drive at all, due to physical disabilities. In this case, it doesn’t say who was assumed to be at fault? The 19 year old driver, with 17 year old female passenger, could very well have been texting or who knows what. So until all the evidence is in, we can’t make a judgment. Oh! By the way I am a 75 year old male driver, who has been licensed since 1966, no tickets, no accidents ( my fault). S o let’s be fare, inexperience is just as dangerous as a senior with physical limitations. I my self, having cataracts, I would only drive on clear days, no night driving. I have driven on three continent’s and held a licenses in 3 countries, and driven well over a million miles. When I feel I should give up driving or a doctor says it is dangerous for me to do so, then I will give it up. Individual intelligence and admission of frailties, are the decision maker, and many feel they can continue to drive, when they shouldn’t!
