The Lakewood Police Department in the coming months will have five new police officers, Police Chief Rob Lawson says.
The officers, four males and one female, are currently in the Ocean County Police Academy and will be graduating in about 10 weeks, the Chief says.
Once graduated, the officers will go through an approximately ten-week training with an FTO (Field Training Officer) before hitting the streets solo.
Several officers are also expected to be promoted during the year-end ceremonies.
The new hires would bring the number of police officers to approximately 130.

Again !!!!
you have a problem with this Jay?????
What do you mean again?? they need more officers to keep up with the booming population in this town..remember Safety First.
Good Job LPD keep up the good work
To meet the Accreditation they are going for the PD needs to meet the officer:population ratio requirement set forth by the Accreditation process. Since lakewood has “96,000+” citizens (more like 120,000) you’re looking at several dozen more officers in the near future. Wait for it…”WAH taxes..blah blah, I want everything for free…WAH!”
yes again!!! this is becoming a police town all i see when i drive are cops, don’t get me wrong i have nothing against cops i respect them, they put there lives on the line but to many is scary.
P.S. i dont see the crime rate dropping.
Jay, please, you’re embarrassing yourself now. Please just go lie down. You say you have nothing against cops but here you are complaining. Go get some rest sweetheart.
I encourage you to take the civil service test and do what these men and women do day in and day out. Thanks LPD keep up the good work
