LPD: Emergency Lines Flooded With Calls Following Earthquake

captain_meyer_tlsIf you were unable to get through to Lakewood Police following this afternoon’s earthquake, that’s because the lines were flooded with calls. “The phones would not stop ringing”, Police Captain Gregory Meyer tells TLS. Captain Meyer says the hundreds of calls continued to pour in for close to an hour following the 2:00 PM incident, requiring police to assign extra officers to the radio room.

Many callers got a busy signal, but many could simply could not get through due to their own cell service being down.

There were no earthquake-related injuries reported. TLS-CCP.

Help, 911!!!

I don’t get why everyone was calling 911. Was it to tell them there’s an earthquake? They know already. To ask them to come save you? You’re perfectly fine!!!

I don’t get the need to call them!!!

called police - thought may be construction explosion

Great!…..so had there been real emergencies people would have been on hold. Use some common sense people, the world didn’t end; a few pictures frames on the wall shook.

Why call the police? Are they supposed to come and stop your house from shaking? Leave 911 for emergencies

Wanted to call police because first i didn’t know right away it was an earthquake and was thinking something happened to my house and may soon collapse

Think before you act

What could the police do to prevent your house from collapsing? Hashem gave youa brain so that you can use it. If something is going to happen to your house, GO OUTSIDE, then maybe if needed you call the police. Call 911 when you have an actual emergency like someone, heaven forbid is dead, dying or bleeding. Otherwise call the non Emergency # 732-363-0200.

9-1-1 goes to the county first then the county contacts lakewood, the non emergency line goes directly to dispatch….a construction explosion? House collapsing? what are you people smoking. Dont you think if there was an explosion the police would know about it before you came to the bright conclussion that it may have been a construction explosion, lord knows where you would even get that idea from. God forbid an actual catastrophic natural or otherwise disaster would happen, the whole community would be running around like chickens with their heads cut off.
