With dozens of vehicles burglarized in Lakewood over Yom Tov, officials are once again reminding residents to double check their vehicles are locked each night. There were reportedly over 40 vehicles burglarized over Yom Tov, and all were reportedly left unlocked – as none appeared to have been forcefully entered.
“If a burglar finds a vehicle that’s locked, chances are he’ll just move on and try the next one,” said an official.
Most of the burglaries took place in the Carasaljo Drive area, but burglaries occurred in several other areas around town as well.
Any update on catching this guy?
Before random frequency technology, which pretty much all cars have after 2008. The locks use about 10,000 randomly revolving codes if you locked your car with the remote key, thieves can be quite a distance away waiting for you to remotely lock your car. But it’s highly unlikely that they would have sophisticated enough “code grabbers” to break the current technology to intercept the code and unlock the car later with the stolen code. Today “code grabbing” is pretty much impossible with newer models.
Even so you can be super-safe by using the door lock button on your car door (or elsewhere)upon exiting, which does not send a security code through the airwaves.
