The Lakewood Volunteer Fire Department tells TLS they have been alerted about scammers attempting to solicit donations from Lakewood residents falsely claiming to be from the Lakewood Fire Department.

One resident said he started asking the blocked caller questions, and “he got angry and hung up.”

“The Lakewood Fire Department does not solicit donations via phone,” Fire Commissioner David Mizrahi tells TLS. “We only solicit donations online or via mailings.”

Mizrahi says he has notified the fire chiefs about the scam, and is monitoring the situation.
