I went to a beautiful simcha today. Klal Yisrael are amazing how we show up for each other to share in simchas.
There was something that I found disturbing though and it’s not really anyone’s fault but I think awareness can make a difference.
While the Baal Simcha was trying to speak, the ladies side could not hear anything and therefore the noise level kept rising pretty loud. This obviously makes it impossible for anyone trying to listen to hear the baal simcha.
Of course there’s constant shushing but its futile and the noise kept going.
I think firstly the simcha halls need to make sure they have a working CLEAR mic for baalei simcha.
But secondly, what i realized is that often even when you can hear the Baal Simcha talking people talk anyway. And each person thinks, “My little talking is not going to disturb.” But while each person feels this, all the little talking and kids squealing and running around, joins into a cacophony of noise and the Baal Simcha doesn’t stand a chance. He has to keep talking while he cant hear his own voice.
We are klal Yisrael and we are better than that. We just dont realize the harm we are causing.
So now that you know, yes you, next time you’re at a simcha and someone’s attempting to speak, remember. Your talking is a part of the noise causing harm to the baal simcha. Even if youre related. Its still harm.
May we be zoche to such a great level of Ahavas Yisrael and see Mashiach any day!
A relative of the Baal Simcha (that unfortunately couldn’t hear a word he said).

A mic is absolutely important. Speak in a way that the women can understand. It helps them keep quiet. Most important, keep it real short.
