Letter: Please return my cones [UPDATED]

It is with great sadness that I come to Lakewood Scoop to retrieve my stolen cones.

I am a nurse that works in Lakewood. I take care of a little Jewish boy who stole my heart, 12 hours a day 4 days a week. He happens to live in the very congested area of Forest and 5th ave.

I park my car across the street at another apartment complex due to the lack of parking. I have suffered a great deal of damage to my cars parking on the main road due to the carelessness of the drivers in the area. I recently acquired a brand new car and decided to place cones in front and back of my car so it would remind these careless drivers that this is my property, not theirs, to damage. Also, if they were to tap my bumper, the cone would be a buffer.

I left my patient’s home at 7AM to find a note on my windshield that stated “DO NOT PARK here if you’re not a resident or guest” and my cones STOLEN! They have my name on them!

If you have my cones, I don’t care who you are, please leave them on 5th and Forest Ave. so I can retrieve them. So since I can’t park there, even though I see non-residents parking there all night, in and out, going to Shul, I’d appreciate my property back at the very least.

Again, I am a nurse taking care of a sick child in the community and this is what I get in return! Thank you so much.

Jessica, overnight pediatric nurse

Thank you all for your support. I was truly touched when I read all your comments and concerns. It was the principle of getting MY cones back; not that I cannot afford to buy new ones. Although I appreciate it, I would never allow anyone to purchase me anything or donate money because there are truly people out there that are actually in need of help. I simply wanted to bring awareness to the community that I give my blood, sweat and tears to my patients and I don’t deserve this. I will definitely start doing some of the suggestions you all have made and put a sign in my car letting people know I am nurse on duty. Hopefully parking gets easier for me. Have a great Shabbos!

  1. I’m not rushing to judgement since I only know the side of the story I just read but it does sound like a tolerance issue. I hope this ill child’s care is NEVER compromised if the nurse’s allegations are indeed substantiated.

  2. . i can accept a note being left on the car’s windshield asking for an explanation, but, to steal? to punish someone for parking on your lot? shame on you!

  3. 1. My heart goes out to you.
    2. When we will learn to make decisions only after getting all the facts?
    3. Meanwhile, buy an Oak-tag and write on it: “Pediatric Nurse. If you have any questions, call or knock”: Then write your phone number or the address where you are at.
    4. How sad it that the few really rotten apples ruin it for all of us.

  4. Ppl are nuts live and let live!.
Jessica don’t get discuraged from one loser and regarding ppl hitting your bumber unfortunately like u said parking is hard to find so ppl don’t hit you on purpose it’s just thight spots

  5. Editor: Please give writer my contact. I’d like to either buy her new cones or get her a bumper guard. This is truly sad that they did this. Maybe she can also get an official plaque for her vehicle stating her description.
    Thank You,

  6. Jessica I feel terrible that you’ve had this experience. For your devotion and dedication to this little boy, you deserve royal treatment. I’m sorry that there are some people who’s tolerance and understanding of circumstances without jumping to conclusion needs major improvement!!!! Thank you for all that you do for this boy!!!

  7. To leave a note hat says you aren’t allowed to park their if not a resident is intolerant in itself. And to have your car recklessly hit and damaged just because there is no parking is not acceptable it is still hit and run. There are laws in our country and we all have to be civil to one another, stealing someone’s property even if it a cone is still stealing and a sin. I just don’t understand people sometimes. I’m so sorry this has all happened to you and I hope the thief returns your cones.

  8. Dear Jessica,

Thank you so much for the work and effort you do for the young and infirm in the community.

May Gd bless you with much strength and wherewithal to continue your noble purpose.

  9. I will be happy to help with the Cones too. All nurses are g-ds gift to humanity!! unfortunately as a lkwd resident your story about limited parking is not new. We all suffer from it. But stealing your cones is unheard of in our community period.

Can the scoop set up a go fund me page for her?

  10. Jessica I’m so sorry that you had to experience this, when you deserve the opposite! For all the care and dedication that you devote to this little boy, you deserve royal treatment and the right to a parking spot nearby.

  11. I can’t believe what I am reading. So sad.

I would also like to participate in paying for cones, parking, guards, etc…

Maybe the township can give this person a plaque and an assigned spot for nurse parking.

Please give her my email to contact me.

    Tx so much

  12. Dear Alan,
I am offended that you even say this is a tolerance issue. I absolutely love the community and my patient. I simply want my cones back. I was stating a fact that people go to Shul and park there; there is a Shul across the street. If it was a mosque or a dance school etc. I would have said “people park there all night to go to dance school”. There is no bias or hate in anything that I said. Just facts for people to understand where I’m coming from. An illegal parker is an illegal parker. Point blank. Thank you to everyone else who understands this is merely about getting my property back. I have already purchased new cones. Just figured I would contact the awesome Lakewood scoop for help. Have a great shabbos!

  13. Dear Jessica,
I agreed who ever took your cones are outstanding robbers. They should put cones back and this community need respect the responsibility of this nurse. I am not pleased with saddened of sick kids. They should be better with Refuah.

  14. When people have a gripe it is often hard to even accept explanations and aplogies.
Jessic, you are clearly a warm giving person and I can see from what and how you write why you chose the field you did. I appreciate how open you’ve been to the responses you are getting.
    Wishing you all the best.

  15. I live in an apt building on the other side of town. We do not appreciate people parking in our lot. I know that there are extra spot, but thats only as long as people dont park there. I dont care why you are here, but a private lot is private. (I do understand that in your situation it is not enforced, Im addressing a diffrent issue). Thank you everyone for your consideration.

  17. So HARRY, what facts are you implying are being withheld? And you’re suggesting surveillance…have you seen me park my car? Did you see the damage on both my other cars? Or do you know who is banishing me from parking my car safely? If you have, please introduce yourself next time you see me. Until then, I’ll state once again for the record: I contacted Lakewood scoop to bring awareness to this issue in hopes that I will get my property back and possibly have an easier time parking when I’m working. If people knew my story they’d be less likely to think I’m being rude and just parking where I’m not suppose to and more inclined to understand where I’m coming from. Thanks so much.

    • Just to set the record straight, my comment about a surveillance camera was part of my other comment to request assisting you in recovering your cones.

  18. APT DWELLER you are entitled to your opinion but it seems as though kindness has prevailed in this argument as per all the supportive comments. Yes I’m parked illegally, but as a human being, if I see someone doing something inherently good I’m not going to go out of my way to hurt them or punish them. Everyone sees me in scrubs, a stethoscope, and a nurse bag. They also see me walking outside with my patient. I’m asking for compassion not judgement. Let’s all be courteous and respectful of one another and one another’s property.

  19. I too, work as a pediatric nurse in the community and I am so blessed with the families I’ve taken care of. I am glad to see everyone come together to help Jessica out. I hope whomever took them will see this and return them, as it’s the right thing to do.
Have a Blessed and Wonderful Shabbos <3

  20. Dear Nurse,
Thank you so much for all the important work that you do. Thank you for all your time and effort.
Permit me to request one favor. If someone writes an unsupportive comment, please do not reply.
Please do not reply to those very few individuals.
    Thank you

  21. I think that someone who goes to work in an apt. or a development for the benefit of a resident, should be allowed to park there, where he/she works. Guests should also be able to park if they are visiting someone. Whoever took those cones is a ganav.

  22. Dear Jessica,
A big thank you for taking care of this sick person with such devotion and dedication!!
And what do you get for that?
    Your cones stolen! So sad!
Obviously you’re doing tremendous kindness and you’ll get rewarded for it!
It makes me sick to my stomach when I hear such stories let’s just say you shouldn’t be parking there. There’s a right and wrong way of dealing with it, this is the wrong way of dealing with it!
And there are no excuses for people to be bumping into peoples parked cars if it’s to small don’t park in it if you’re in it and someone blocked you in then that guy is wrong and selfish!

  23. Just wanted to add in my own two cents here. The state senate and assembly have overwhelmingly approved and passed bill A3683 which “authorizes parking privileges for certain healthcare workers who render services at patients homes”.

I think it’s worthwhile for readers here to look-up and think about this bill.

The state legislators understand the hardship of at-home healthcare workers. Perhaps we should also!

  24. Nurses are some of the best people out there and you all have my utmost respect. You guys help people in their must difficult and painful moments.
