I thought to myself, why is it such a given that everyone has to leave town for Yom Tov?
Am I not entitled to stay home? Am I a “Neb” if I spend Sukkos in Lakewood? Do I need to explain myself if I’m not packing my bags and heading to the airport?
There seems to be this assumption that everyone has to have some big Yom Tov getaway planned. If you’re staying home, people look at you like something is wrong.
But guess what? Some of us actually enjoy being home for Yom Tov. We like our own Sukkah, our own beds, our own shul, and not having to schlep a family and a carload of luggage somewhere else.
So, to the guy at the suit store: I wasn’t offended by the question. I just found it funny that you assumed I was leaving.
Maybe this year, we can accept that staying home for Sukkos is also an option.

Not everyone flies somewhere but alot of people do go away to in laws and relatives for yt. And some people have to fly to their parents or in laws!! No you’re not a neb for staying home but everyone has a different situation.

Nothing irks me more than the term “Pesach Program”, It’s a Pesach RESORT. You might want to sound more serious by calling it a program, but basically you’re going to a spa and sports resort with 24/7 food.

This is a click bait letter. The reality is that over 90% if not more of the Lakewood and surrounding towns families stay home.
In fact, so many grandparents wish to host their kids but are told they are staying home to be with their friends and in their Shul. Lakewood is beautiful on Succos.

If you think of yourself as a neb, you are a neb! Regardless of how much money you do or don’t have. Teach this and preach this. “Being a neb is a mindset” unfortunately Nebism is a very prevalent attitude in our town, and you DON’T have to give in to it or suffer from it.

Yes, you are. In matter fact that is the reason I go to my in-laws in Montreal. It is very hard to schlepp a family with 6 kids and the sleeping accommodations are not that great either, besides for the fact that my inlaws are not the most pleasurable people to be with to put it kindly. To be honest if I was able to afford it, I would go to Orlando, but since I consider myself a mature and responsible adult we decided to just stick it out with the in-laws.
My advice to you and other readers – if you ae going to be from the NEBS that stay home just tell people you are spending Y’T with family.
