Lakewood UEZ Board To Vote On $4 Million ‘Integrated Transit Network’

The Lakewood Development Corporation, the board that oversees the township’s Urban Enterprise Zone (UEZ) funds, meets today, and its agenda includes a $4 million transit plan to be submitted to the state, TLS has learned.

The resolution authorizes the LDC to submit a project request to the New Jersey Urban Enterprise Zone Authority for a new “Lakewood UEZ Integrated Transit Network Program,” in an amount not to exceed $4,000,000.

The resolution says the township “has successfully operated a fixed-route shuttle network and now seeks to modernize and expand transit options through the deployment of an on-demand microtransit pilot,” to improve access to jobs, services and commerce. It notes that using zone funds for the project also requires a resolution from the Township Committee.

As TLS reported last November, the Lakewood Shuttle’s new full-size transit buses were bought with UEZ funds, which come from the reduced sales tax collected by local UEZ businesses.

Waste of money. Be transparent and let us know how many people ride these empty busses.
