An investigation into a series of alleged scrap metal thefts from a Lakewood business has resulted in four individuals facing a combined 44 criminal charges, TLS has learned.

The investigation began on July 21, 2026, after police received a report regarding suspected scrap metal thefts from a local business. Investigators determined that multiple thefts had allegedly taken place over a period of time.

The case was assigned to Detective Ganley, who conducted the investigation and ultimately identified four individuals allegedly connected to the incidents.

On August 18, 2026, the following charges were filed:

Sean Laverty, 20, of Brick, was charged with seven counts of Theft, one count of Burglary and six counts of Trespassing.

Logan Burdge, 21, of Brick, was charged with seven counts of Theft, one count of Burglary and six counts of Trespassing.

Thomas Fatula, 50, of Lakehurst, was charged with six counts of Theft, one count of Burglary and seven counts of Trespassing.

Nikolaos Maroulis, 30, of Point Pleasant, was charged with one count of Theft and one count of Trespassing.

“Repeated thefts can have a very real impact on our local businesses, and we take those concerns seriously,” said Chief Gregory H. Meyer. “I commend Detective Ganley for his persistence throughout this investigation and for his efforts in identifying those allegedly responsible.”

The Lakewood Police Department said it remains committed to protecting the local business community and holding those who victimize businesses accountable.
