Lakewood Police have lately been issuing less warnings and more real summonses for improper parking, in an effort to increase safety for both pedestrians and drivers, sources say.
One of the more common improper parking issues being more strictly enforced, is the practice of ‘corner hugging’ – parking a vehicle too close to an intersection, which restricts the view of motorists and pedestrians.
State law mandates that all vehicles be parked 50 feet from a stop sign on all four corners and 25 feet from a known crosswalk, painted or not.
According to Traffic Safety Sergeant Frank Work, there are some areas in town where parking has been eliminated for up to 100 feet from the intersections because of crash histories at the sites. These areas are marked with signs that reflect the restrictions.
You may not have known this, but if an accident occurs as a result of an illegally parked car, the vehicle’s driver could have some civil liability in a lawsuit because they were a factor in causing the crash.
Last month, police began issuing printed warnings for improper parking, but more real summonses are recently being issued in certain areas, according to sources.
The fines for improper parking range from $54.00 to $60.00.

Thank you!!!! Finally I won’t have to feel like I’m taking a gamble every time I come to an intersection in town.
Enforcement is sorely needed here, but so is a parking area downtown. We want to support local merchants, but schlepping packages a long distance is a deterrent.
I hope the LPD sets up a dedicated phone line to report instances of unsafe parking to provide for quick responses and summonses. It is out of control and in many cases extremely dangerous. Many people seem to be unreasonably hesitant to report cases on the grounds that they may be reporting a jew. Those people are themselves contributing to the hazardous conditions we all face every day and it’s time for that kind of nonsense to end.
someone should print this out and hang it in some of local shuls.
About time LONG OVERDUE , we can finally put an end to these selfish senseless drivers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the fine should be $250 – and if an accident is deemed caused because of someone unable to see because of a car illegally parked, than they should be responsible for everything as well – but that is a dream society.
Pedestrrans walking in the street ,when sidewalks are available should be ticketed also !!!
Can they can have an email address to report these to?
As well as reporting potholes?
then people can send a photo of the issue and a google location and there will be a proper record of notification for all
Thanks
Also, why do people feel it necessary to walk in the street when there are sidewalks?
I feel that after 2 ticketed offenses, the car should be impounded. Once someone goes through the hassle of having to get his vehicle back from the impound, it will be a long time before they park illegally again. Ask anyone who has parked in Manhattan at the wrong time and place what a hassle it is.
There are 3 cars parked this way right now in front of my home and it is a school bus stop. In addition there are cars double parked dropping off children waiting for the bus.
Its about time but they are only issuing warnings. It happens like this every day, twice a day.
In case no one know but parking on central av Is 100 % illegal. I found out the hard way.
@amazed go ahead! Do it yourself!
