An active-duty Navy man was arrested Tuesday during the lockdown of the Lakehurst Naval Air Station in an unrelated incident, according to police. Petty Officer 2nd Class Garrett D. Ballard, 27, of Fairway Court in Lakewood, stationed at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, according to Capt. David Newman, spokesman for Jackson police.
Around 11 a.m., a FedEx delivery man was delivering a package to a home on Whitesville Road when he pulled over and noticed a Volkswagen GTI parked behind him, according to police.
Ballard was driving the Volkswagen and FedEx driver Marcus DeVincentis, who works for FedEx Express out of the company’s Lakewood terminal, was making the delivery to a home when he saw the car pull up behind him as he parked, said DeVincentis’ brother, Rick DeVincentis of Maryland, who was at his brother’s home.
Marcus DeVincentis told police he thought Ballard was the homeowner of the residence where he was making the delivery until Ballard brandished a knife and told him to drop the package, according to police. Read full article in APP.
