Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles responds to your ‘Ask The Mayor’ questions: Waze

The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to [email protected].

Question:

Dear Mayor,

Thank you so much for all the work being done to help improve the flow of traffic in this growing city.

I know that there have been many road closures due to scheduled and unscheduled repairs. For many of us the routes we take on a daily basis suddenly becomes backed up with little signage and no way to change course. Is there any way to update waze and other navigating apps each morning (or when Emergency repairs occur) with the road closures? Even if you can’t reach everyone (many local drivers do not have smart phones) at least those that use those apps will be notified and rerouted.

Many times the roads are not being identified as closed or under construction and these Apps are directing traffic straight through the troubled areas.

If I knew that Waze is being updated I would use it with the knowledge that I am being sent the best directions.

Thank you for this opportunity to share our thoughts and suggestions, and thank you for considering them.

Response from Mayor Coles:

Good evening. Waze was brought up in this forum several months ago. I spoke to Traffic & Safety & they agreed it would be a good idea. After reading your email today, I followed up woth them. I was told by Sgt. Work that they just received the paperwork from Waze last week. They are filling it out and will determine how we can best use it.

Take Care

Ray
