Question:
Thank you Mayer Ray Coles for all you do on behalf of our Town.
I am reaching out regarding the intersection at Rt. 9 and Kennedy Blvd and County Line Rd.
Can a turning light be added to the traffic lights? It is very difficult to make a left turns and that causes a lot of backup.
In addition, Kent Rd is closed for the next 7 months due to construction. And this is causing extra volume at the Rt 9 & Kennedy & County Line intersections.
The would be very helpful.
Thank you
A grateful resident
Response from Mayor Coles:
We have already made another formal request to the state DOT. Committeeman Lichtenstein and I were on a call with the DOT Director last week and we told her this was an urgent issue in town
She promised to have an engineer come to town & look into this in the next week or so. I am hopeful they may finally agree to address this situation
Thanks
Ray
Question:
Dear Mayor Coles,
Recently, the left turning arrow going from New Hampshire onto Cedarbridge (toward Avenue of the States) sometimes doesn’t go on. Instead it goes straight to green the other side while our side is fully red.
Also, when the left turning arrow does turn on it is so short it only allows five cars compared to the intersection of New Hampshire and Route 88 which allows 10 or 11!
because of both these issues I could wait for at least 3 to 4 lights to be able to turn. This causes a backup spilling into the next lane which causes traffic on New Hampshire and a lot of aggravation
Is there any way you can fix both these issues?
Thanks for being such a great mayor to our community!
Response from Mayor Coles:
Good morning,
I forwarded your request on to the Ocean County engineer and asked them, to make sure the cameras are all working properly & look into ways we can increase traffic flow.
Thanks

There are left turn signals for Kennedy Blvd for both NB & SB Route 9. The left turn signals at New Hampshire & Cedarbridge are sensor controlled in all four directions. That’s the little cylindrical camera-like thing above the traffic light. If you’re too far behind the stop line the device won’t “see” you and you’ll be sitting there forever.
