The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to [email protected].
Question:
Hi,
When is the playground on School Garden Street going to be rebuilt? My kids really miss it since it was dismantled in September.
Thanks!
Response from Mayor Coles:
Good morning,
I’m sorry at the delay in finalizing this playground. I was just informed that much of the equipment we ordered has been on back order due to manufacturing delays because of the Pandemic. We are hoping that the balance of it will be in by April. Once we have everything in we will prioritize it’s installation.
Thanks for your patience.
Stay safe,
Ray

This is a big disappointment to the neighbors and the community. Why would you destroy a park before having plans and equipment to replace it with. We missed the whole fall with the park and now we’re going to miss the whole spring as well!! And the park that’s being installed is only supposed to be mediocre quality since his bid was lower then the better quality equipment. We’re paying top tax dollar there’s no reason for this!
Would it be possible to please somehow make this park shady, with sufficient seating for adults and sufficient swings?
The original park was deficient in these areas.
Thank you so much!
Drive to Toms River, Jackson, Brick or any surrounding towns and look at their playground then come to Lakewood and compare, even the new ones that the township is setting up is nowhere as good as the one in those places especially the ones in Toms River. Sad but true
The one in Toms River was done by the parents that live there. Many weeks of their own time and money. Perhaps every town should think of doing this. Do it for your children and your town.
