Question:
Dear Mayor,
I wanted to reach out about an issue at the intersection of Pine and Washington. During the busy hours of the day, that intersection gets extremely backed up. It can take a very long time for cars trying to turn out of Washington, and there is also a backup for cars trying to make a left turn from Pine onto Washington.
Is there any possibility of having a crossing guard or traffic officer at that intersection during the busiest hours to help direct traffic and keep things moving until a traffic light is installed?
I would really appreciate it if this could be looked into and if Traffic & Safety could possibly evaluate the intersection during those busy times.
Thank you for taking the time to look into this, and thank you for all that you do for our town. It is very much appreciated.
Response from Mayor Coles:
Good morning
Our engineers are working on a plan to expand and place lights at this intersection. I will ask the chief to see if there is a crossing guard he can assign there.

Question:
Good morning, Mr. Mayor,
Thank you for providing such an open line of communication for Lakewood residents. It is truly helpful and very much appreciated.
I live in the 14th Street area and have become increasingly concerned about the intersection of 14th Street and Cedar Row. Over the past several months, I have noticed a number of accidents at this intersection, and I recently experienced a near miss myself.
One factor that seems to contribute to the problem is the parking along 14th Street near the local synagogue. When cars are parked there, visibility can be quite limited for drivers traveling southbound on Cedar Row who are trying to cross 14th Street.
I was wondering whether the township could look into possible ways to improve safety at this intersection. Perhaps a four-way stop could be considered, which might help slow traffic and allow drivers crossing 14th Street to do so more safely.
I would greatly appreciate having the appropriate department take a look at the intersection and determine whether a four-way stop, parking restrictions near the corner, or another traffic-safety measure might help.
Thank you very much for your time and for your responsiveness to the concerns of Lakewood residents.
Response from Mayor Coles:
Good morning
Thanks for taking the time to reach out. I will ask our professional to look into this and come back with some recommendations.
Take Care
Ray
