Question:
I was wondering if it would be possible to construct a pedestrian walkway/overpass over Rt 9 South by the Evergreen shopping plaza. There are always lots of people who try to cross this busy street to do some shopping. And it is extremely dangerous because the cars go pretty fast in this area. It would also be a tremendous help for people who need to shop on both sides of Rt 9.
Thank you very much,
Shopper in South Lakewood
Response from Mayor Coles:
It is a good idea, but I do not think we would get permission from the state to construct one. We are working with them to install several traffic lights in that area.

Speaking of pedestrian overpasses. by the Northern side of Rt 9. If someone needs to cross over past Kennedy Blvd. He has about half a mile until the next available light. Therefore most people just cross right in middle of the 9. I’ve personally witnessed to many near misses and one near fatal hit. My non professional opinion 🙂 put a traffic light by the second gourmet glatt intersection/Yapchik exit, and make the current entrance only an exit. That will alleviate the crazy and dangerous backup from people trying to get into gourmet glatt plaza as well as create a safe crossing zone for pedestrians. Your welcome. You can send me a check through the scoop.
