Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles Responds to Your ‘Ask The Mayor’ Questions: New Traffic Light, Traffic Safety Issue, County Line Road

The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to [email protected].

Question:

We are looking into ways to alert individual neighborhoods advance notice of things like street cleaning

Thanks.

Response from Mayor Coles:

Good morning

We are working with the state to get the timing on the lights adjusted. It is not unusual for problems like this to arise when a light goes live for the first time. I appreciate you bringing it to our attention so we can get it addressed

Stay safe

Ray

Question:

Dear Mayor,

First, I want to thank you for your many years of dedicated public service to the residents of Lakewood. Your efforts and leadership are sincerely appreciated, and we wish you continued success and good health.

I wanted to bring to your attention an ongoing issue in the Westgate area. There have been frequent violations of the one-way street designations, on the street called Lublin Terrace, with drivers regularly going the wrong way. This not only creates unnecessary traffic backups—undermining the purpose of the one-way system—but also poses a real safety risk for pedestrians and other drivers who are expecting traffic from only one direction. I am a pregnant woman with another two children in my car and I personally fear for the safety of myself and my children.

Would it be possible for the township to look into this and consider increased enforcement or signage in that area? It would go a long way toward improving both safety and traffic flow in the community.

Thank you for your time and continued dedication to Lakewood.

Response from Mayor Coles:

Good morning

I asked the police department to pay additional attention over there. I have also asked them to work with public works to see if we can improve the signage.

Thanks,

Ray

Question:

Good morning

In the name of the thousands of cars driving here daily , I’d like to bring to your attention about the condition of this stretch in the road. From the 9 until Squankum rd , the road is full of pot holes , cracks &uneven , driving on the road feels like it’s constantly under construction, besides for damaging the vehicles driving there it’s extremely unpleasant.

Would greatly appreciate if this road can be repaired as soon as possible.

Thank you for your attention to this matter!

A neighbor

Response from Mayor Coles:

Good morning

This is a county road. I forwarded your request to the county enginner.

Thanks,

Ray

The first answer does not fit the first question. Was that an answer or a mix up in the article?

I used to live on Lublin, and it wasn’t just the residents that went the wrong way. I used to see police officers always go the wrong way on the street also. Honestly it would probably make sense to make it a two way street and just make it no parking on one side of the street so there would be room for the cars to go both ways.
