Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles responds to your ‘Ask The Mayor’ questions: Multiple Questions

The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to [email protected].

Question:

Dear Mayor,

On behalf of all the Lakewood citizens i want to thank you profusely for being there for all of us and doing it with such caring and class.

Im writing to you regarding Albert Ave between oak and pine. It becomes practically a parking lot in the morning and afternoons with the clog of busses and cars. What would be very helpful is, if there would be parking allowed on only one side of the street. All the homes have driveways and there just isn’t room for two way traffic plus parking on both sides. Sometime a couple parked cars hold up traffic for 15 minutes.
As always thank you

Response from Mayor Coles:

Thank you for reaching out. I have asked Traffic & Safety to look into this and suggest some solutions

Question:

Hi Mayor Coles, thank for this extremely helpful forum. I know that the town makes every effort for road construction projects to not affect morning traffic. However can there be some rules for regular home construction, for example this morning on Williams Street, an extremely busy Street in the morning their trucks were going in and out of the work zones holding up traffic alot, and again on Prospect another truck was in the entire lane unloading blocking traffic causing a mess. Thank you for your time

Response from Mayor Coles:

Good morning,

Our engineering department is currently reviewing and revamping the rules regarding construction of this type. We are trying to minimize the disruptions and safety issues, such as blocking streets, parking and sidewalks without unduly affecting the ability of homeowners to get their homes rebuilt.

Thanks

Question:

Hi thank you so much for the new park at north lake and forest. It’s quite nice!

I noticed they put in mulch – we were there today and noticed a couple issues.
1. It was quite difficult to walk on especially for the little ones
2. it kept getting into everyone’s shoes.
3. the little toddlers sometimes attempt to eat it
4. It makes the clothes quite dirty

Would it be possible to get the foam /rubber mats put in instead?

Response from Mayor Coles:

I am happy you are enjoying the new playground

Our plan is to eventually replace the mulch with the pour in place compound you mentioned. The main obstacle is the price. It is much more expensive to place than mulch. Depending on the playground area, it can cost as much as most of the equipment!

We are completing equipment replacement at several other playgrounds now. Once they are in place, we will budget to begin the mulch replacement at our playgrounds.

Thanks

Ray

  1. I live on a quiet residential block with single family homes. We appreciate our quiet, space and parking spots on the street. Recently, houses on the block have been sold and there are now approximately 5-7 families in each house with 8-10 cars per house, garbage, noise etc. understandably this distrupts the neighbors tremendously and greatly impacts our quality of life. What are our rights as tax paying citizens ? Is this legal? And if not how can we go about making sure the law is enforced ? Thank you Mr. Mayer.

  2. Dear Mayor Coles,
As I’m sure you know Passover is rapidly approaching. During the last 2 weeks before the holiday many of us are overwhelmed with a million things to accomplish in such a short amount of time.
I was wondering if perhaps leading up to Passover you can have the Lakewood PD suspend all traffic & parking enforcement. This will make our lives so much easier.
    Much appreciated,
    Me
