The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to [email protected]
Question:
Thank you mayor for all you do.
I’ve written a few ask them mayors about how dark Lakewood is and don’t know if it was addressed.
This town is extremely dark and especially now with a lot of 55+ aged residents moving in. I know a lot of them have had to stop driving at night because it’s too dark.
Can more street lights up ( many more) please be added?
Thank you
Many concerned residents
Response from Mayor Coles:
Good morning,
We are constantly adding and upgrading lights to make Lakewood safer at night.
If you could reach out to my office in town hall and let us know what neighborhood you live in, we can see what the status of upgrades is and add the area if we have not gotten to it yet.
Thanks
Ray

I love this towns Mayor! Thank you Mayor Coles!
Easy Fix.
Use your headlights!
There’s a reason they are federally mandated on automobiles.
Even with headlights it’s very dark if no or dim streetlights as headlights only show what’s in front and not on the sides and surroundings
I have high quality headlights and use them night and day. But in the absence of adequate street lighting, night driving is challenging
Small cars come with small headlights.
Large vans come with large headlights.
Great suggestion. Sometimes headlights don’t do an adequate job lightning the way at night.
Lakewood is the most lit up town, there is actually light pollution from Lakewood. The tiny town has been turned into a gaudy city area complete with excessive light.
you have obviously never been to Brooklyn.
Great suggestion. Sometimes headlights don’t do an adequate job lightning the way at night.
2)I wish some 55 & over would stop driving during the day.
I wish some 55 & over would give up driving during the daytime.
If we could have an easier way of calling in the streetlights which we have and are out, that would help. One evening, when I was feeling industrious and chaverim-like, I drove down Chestnut. I called in over 15 street lights which were out. You’d have to count it to believe it. For each, I had to pull over, put on my hazards, exit through the passenger seat, and write down the pole number. It’s easy to call in the street light near your house, but on the big streets- it’s ridiculous, and no one is responsible to get it done.
Just came to publicly thank Mayor Coles for always trying to make Lakewood a better place!
I think LED headlights should be banned. It’s blinding & as you’re trying to gaze away from the crazy glare, it’s really to nearly impossible to then see a pedestrian. I wonder if more street lights would help to dim these insane headlights which should be banned and recalled at a federal level.
just wear sunglasses when you’re driving at night like the rest of us!
