The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to [email protected].
Question:
Good morning.
I know that a while back there was talk about running a bus up and down Rt 9 but it never happened. NJ Transit runs coach buses on that road but they only go as far as the terminal, meaning you need two buses just to go from south of the lake to the north part of town, not to mention that south of the terminal the buses come once an hour. In all the cities and towns across the state NJ Transits operates local buses. Why can’t they do the same on Rt 9, from Toms River to Howell with no stops in between?
Response from Mayor Coles:
Good afternoon.
NJ Transit has the rights to all routes along Rt 9. We are not allowed to have our own bus stops along the highway. We are looking at expanded routes of the Lakewood Shuttle and have been in contact with NJ Transit to expand on their service along Rt 9 throughout town to address this problem.
Thanks
Ray

If successful… would there be transfers from NJ Transit to the Lakewood Shuttle… or would you need 2 fares to get up and down the 9 and then extend into the rest of Lakewood?
At the current moment, the Lakewood Shuttle is free.
What’s going on at the Public Works? The garbage pick up is happening a day late. The leaves haven’t been picked up at all this season. They either don’t answer the phone or are nasty. Paying close to 20k in property tax should entitle me to decent service. Do they have Email???
they announce earlier this week that garbage pickup would be a day later because of presidents day
Hey number 2
Did you really think a comment on the scoop is the correct forum for your rant?? My goodness
