Murder charges have been filed against a 20 year old Lakewood resident in connection with a Saturday stabbing of a man in Toms River, Ocean County Prosecutor Marlene Lynch Ford said today.
“At about 1 AM Saturday morning, Toms River Police received a call from the Community Medical Center Emergency Room reporting that a stabbing victim, later identified as Kevin Copes, 24 years old, of Lakewood Township, was brought to the emergency room. The victim subsequently succumbed to these injuries”, Ocean County Prosecutor Marlene Lynch Ford said.
Toms River police immediately commenced an investigation into the incident, together with homicide detectives from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.
“Our initial investigation indicates that the stabbing may have occurred in Toms River, near or at the Briar Knolls Apartment Complex”, Ford said.
“As a result of that investigation, we determined that Steven Rosado, 20 years old, a resident of Lakewood Township, was involved in a fight with the victim, and that we believe probable cause has been established to implicate Mr. Rosado in connection with the crime. Murder charges have been authorized by my office.”
The defendant has been charged with murder. His bail has been set at $750, 000 with no 10% option by the Honorable James N. Blaney, J.S.C.
This is a continuing investigation. Anyone with information about this crime is requested to contact Sgt. Carlos Trujillo-Tovar of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, 732-929-2027, or Detective of the Toms River Township Police Department at 732-349-0150. TLS.
well, well, well, it appears that lakewood has the cream of the crop. let;s review, shall we? a public school system which has been failing miserably, large population of illegals, multiple people being stuck by vehicles particularly within the past months, numerous robberies throughout town, home invasions, motor vehicle accidents galore, traffic out the wazoo, homeless people populating wooded areas , seniors wandering around begging for $ near walgreens . & dollar tree plaza on 9 s,, graffiti, , gang activity (drugs), citizens being threatened & attacked and home to murderers. but hey! we’ve got some great yeshivas!
And yet people constantly complain about the police not doing enough and trivial issues. Open your eyes Lakewood, this is what’s out there beyond the bubble you live in.
Stop giving them work and they will leave!! But you like cheep labor!!
#1:
This particular incident occur in Toms River, not Lakewood. I fail to see your point.
I would suspect the seniors begging for money near Walgreens and the dollar store are those unfortunate people forgotten living at Dover woods, which is in Toms River. Walgreens and dollar plaza are also in Toms River, not in Lakewood.
murderers live everywhere. murders happen everywhere
Throwing little underhanded digs at our town accomplishes nothing.
Do you have suggestion to help?
Ok lets review here, Lakewood has almost twenty less police officers than they did before our current governor took office. Now I realize that people do have to retire, and a few went out on medical leaves, etc. But come on Lakewood residents, stop giving it all away and hire more police officers before it gets worse than it is now. It took past chiefs of police and committee members years to build up a larger force, but current members are just letting it fade away. For what, for a 0% increase 3 years in a row. What do think its gonna cost you in the long run? Wake up and smell that delicious bakeries in the morning downtown and stop the insanity. This town is booming, time to catch up already.
The orthodox have grown and typically don’t need more police officers as there are few violent or doestic violence. Yes there are other parts of lakewood that has creime and the current police force is adequete. Of course the union loving big government people would tewll you otherwise.
Lakewood WAS a beautiful place to live. I lived there for over 25 years and had to get out. You need more police and more taxes.
No town has gotton off with out a increase for three years, you get what you pay for. Cut down on all the busing and you would have money. Stop picking on a failing district, there is never any money for the public schools and again you get what you pay for.
The population growth alone means more police (and garbage service, and all other services) are needed. Doesn’t matter what kind of people. The seniors have little violent crime as well. But the majority of what the police do has nothing to do with violent crime. Car accidents, stolen property, traffic laws, loose dogs, lost children… It goes on. More people simply means more calls for service. When someone has a medical emergency, when an elderly person dies in their home, etc the police have to go. If anyone thinks that a town this large doesn’t require more police as it grows obviously doesn’t know what the police actually do.
To # 6.
I guess if the police department reported the real crime statistics and the amount of calls that take place, your comment would not have been made. Just ask anyone in the know, or all the people who listen to scanners, tweet alerts, buff, or ambulance chase what goes on.
the police dept is doing all they can stop smearing them
u people need to help not complain
To #3 what are you trying to say? That because his last name is “Rosado” he must be an illegal immigrant? I have a lot of legal “immigrants” and US born friends that have Spanish last names! I love how TLS post comments that target directly to the Hispanic community but when someone say something about the frum “community” they don’t post it, And if they did, ppl like you start crying and playing the “anti semitism” card.
#3 Its your ignorance that invites this type of behavior. The racism expressed by you is uncalled for and ignorant. Let the record reflect, this man was not illegal! Not everyone is.
