After a three-year search, the Lakewood Historical Museum has found a home. The Lakewood Township Committee and the Lakewood Historical Society have agreed to make Kuser Hall, 500 Country Club Drive, Lakewood Pine Park, Lakewood, N.J., the permanent home of the Lakewood Historical Museum. Kuser Hall is the last remaining building of five that was once the Newman School for Boys, a private boys’ high school from 1920-1942. Kuser Hall is a two-story, 16,000 square-foot classroom building.
The Lakewood Historical Museum, which had been housed in the Princeton Avenue Building, Lakewood, from 2005 – 2009, has a vast collection of Lakewood memorabilia and artifacts. Since the Princeton Avenue Building was sold, the collection has been in storage.
The Lakewood Historical Society has begun a fundraising campaign. All money will be used to restore Kuser Hall. Stanley Liptzin, president of the Lakewood Historical Society, said, “The goal of the Society is to make Kuser Hall one of the finest community museums in the country and destination for tourists.”
People who would like to donate to the restoration of Kuser Hall or who have items they would like to donate the Lakewood Historical Museum should contact Sheldon Wolpin at 732-920-4550 between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. TLS-PR.
Why none of our elected officials tell da public how much money the township is going to contribute? Cause its a lot of money to fix that outdated building.
I agree with #1
we need transparency!!!! and we do NOT have it.
lack of transparency = corruption
To i can’t believe it- “Da” Historical Society is doing fundraising to help restore the building, not “da” township. Maybe you should pick up a book to help with your grammar instead of posting on blogs all day..
Lakewood has alot of history both for the jewish community and otherwise congregation sons of isreal was founded in early 1900. Also lakewood had alot of businesses based out of here but the overlonger rapid growth of the frum community has seen to making these historical and memorable items things of the past. All we think about now is the future. Yom kippur is about history what was done in the past which decides your future we must not forget the past as it forges our future
The township isn’t paying anything towards this hence our need to fundraise privately.
well if the town can sell (cheap) and give away land (cheap) then why can’t they spend some of that surplus before its all gone……time for a tax raise and stop putting up goose eggs when everything else is rising….. were not buying it……
i wish some of you all out there could spell, (moderated).
Why bother. who cares what Lakewood did in the past. The builders will leave nothing left of the old Lakewood and the new residents could care less of what happened in the past. Tare it down and put up a house.
Bless you ,Mr Wolpin!!! An early settler of Lakewood who is an extraordinary MENSH
hey editor,
my comment only corrected peoples spelling and stated obvious facts about our town, yet you censored it…..why even have a comment section then?
teacher??
I am glad the Historical Society has a home especially in a building with Lkwd history. Everyone should know the history of the town they live in. The history makes it what it is today, good and bad. Classes should be required to take a trip there. Can we not make this just about Jewish history in the town either? Sorry, but that’s not what it only was once upon a time. Let us not forget that it was a beautiful resort town. Every one knew every one…
