A first print of over 13,000 copies of a new cookbook by a Lakewood food editor and author, sold out in about 5 weeks. The cookbook, ‘Fresh & Easy Kosher Cooking, Ordinary Ingredients, Extraordinary Meals’, by Mrs. Leah Schapira of Lakewood, hit stores on November 16 and has been sold out during Chanukah.
“The people have spoken – over 13,000 times”, the book’s distributors, Artscroll, tells TLS. “When it comes to everyday and Shabbos cooking, they wanted fresh ideas that are easy to make. Leah Schapira delivered.”
A busy wife and mother, Mrs. Schapira’s early history with food was anything but sanguine. She describes her childhood as that of the classically finicky eater.
At age eight, her creative mother invited her fussy daughter into the kitchen to discover for herself what she liked to eat. It worked. Soon Leah was whipping up tasty dishes the whole family enjoyed.
Fast forward to age 21, newly-married, Mrs. Schapira co-edited a community fundraising cookbook which has sold over 12,000 copies and is now in its third printing.
A self-taught cook and seasoned traveler, Mrs. Schapira has been the food editor for two popular international Jewish weekly magazines and shares her love of cooking through articles, the culinary website she co-founded, cookkosher.com/ (a user-driven recipe exchange), through cooking demos and classes, and now through her latest creation – Fresh & Easy Kosher Cooking.
A second printing is expected to arrive in stores tomorrow, or Thursday. TLS.

I never enjoyed a cookbook so much. Recipes easy to follow and all ingredients are easy to find
my wife used the book and the food was awesome. Married for 13 years. Sometimes you just want great tasting homemade food and just a change of the regular. With a job and a bunch of kids its hard for her to be creative in the kitchen.
She like thiscook book from all the others we have because its easy, creative, and tastes great.

I got the cookbook as a chanukah prersent and it is stunning! The name says everything! I saw Laeh at a cooking demonstration and not only is she talented, she is such a mentch!
