  1. Unfortunately, appreciation is highly lacking in the volunteer fire department.

BBQ’s are worthless when everything one does is highly criticized.

That is the root cause as to why the volunteer base is fast dwindling.

    • This is a work in progress. If you would like I am very happy to sit down with you so you can voice your concerns. We are always looking to strengthen the dept and I am always here to listen.

    • why don’t you ask your Rav if he could also volunteer because back in the shtetlach the Rabbonim were actively involved in the fire brigades

    • @Chaim Zev
*Aren’t at least 20% of the firefighters here Jewish?
*But regarding if it’s something YOU should do, you should definitely ask your rav as he is probably the one who knows you best and what will work for your avodah/life.

  2. When asked whether he would attend the Lakewood Fire Department’s recruitment event and kosher BBQ, one Lakewood resident told reporters on Tuesday: “I’ll attend the recruitment event, but not the BBQ.”
The Lakewood resident later explained: “I’m a Pyrophobic who has an intense fear of fire. I never get close to BBQ grills, and I won’t get close to the grill this time either. But I’ll definitely attend their recruitment event.”
“I’m a dedicated and hard worker,” he asserted, “I’m pretty sure they’ll accept me as a recruit.”

    • I’m afraid if I volunteer and start commenting about the various fires and the firemen, they’ll say: “Hey, we recruited you to be a fireman, not to comment about the fires and the firemen! Asinine, your fired! Pack your bags and go back to commenting!”
