The Lakewood School District announced today that the only company to respond in a timely fashion to the District’s bid in August to provide shadows for special needs students failed to provide the necessary services and that the District’s Business Administrator was recommending that the services be put out for a competitive contract.
Speaking to TLS, General Counsel Michael Inzelbuch said the District would do all it can to help special needs students.
“The Board and Superintendent are determined to help all kids and staff,” Inzelbuch said. “These are exclusively non-public federal funds. The District will extend the previous contract so classified kids can get services now. We can’t tell David or Julie to wait for his or her shadow until the vendor provides a body. Special needs don’t wait.”
The services are provided in accordance with the State-approved grant exclusively for non-public students who are classified (AKA special education students).
