Lakewood Askonim thank Toms River Police officials, OCPO and Medical Examiner’s office

Lakewood Askonim today thanked officials from multiple local and County agencies who went above and beyond during a recent tragedy.

After a young child was suddenly Niftar, and the family grief-stricken, officials went out of their way to ensure the family was cared for properly, and the painful process made as smooth as possible.

“This is the first time we had such a case over there, and it was amazing how they took into consideration the sensitivity to the family, and the religious customs,” said Rabbi Moshe Dovid Ehrman, a longtime Askan (community leader) and Police Chaplain – who worked on the incident together with Chaplain Rabbi Yisroel Schenkolewski, Police Liaison Meir Lichtenstein and Toms River Police Chaplain Rabbi Abe Fried.

Rabbi Ehrman specifically thanked Toms River Detective Thomas Gross, who went out of his way with regards to the way he handled the family during the tragedy.

“He went out of his way to care for the family, and showed tremendous sensitivity,” said Rabbi Ehrman.

The Rabbis and Askonim also thanked the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, as well as the Medical Examiner’s for expediting the process – especially on a Sunday afternoon.

Also assisting from the Toms River Police Department, were Sgt. James Skripko, Officer Anthony Paciulli, and Officer Mark Nater.

  1. Unbelievable the difference between Toms River and Jackson where in Toms River they are always going out of their way to help but in Jackson however…

  2. Kudos to the Toms River officials and TRPO for adapting to & adopting the orthodox community and honoring & appreciating its’ customs. It’s heartwarming to see, after a rocky start initially – Everyone coming to a point of mutual understanding and respect. I would hate to use a feel good story as an opportunity to bash but @JJ brings up a good point: The difference between the Township of Toms River and the Township of Jackson are quite stark.

  3. Jackson will eventually come around. The old school hard liners will get voted out.Yeshiva fellows will take over. Jackson is great place for yeshiva families. We are actually lucky to have Jackson plenty of room for yeshiva families.
