Lakewood Askonim, Local and State Officials Meet in Trenton to Discuss Busing Crisis

busing trafficAskonim, local officials and high level state officials met with in Trenton today to discuss the busing crisis set to affect thousands of children this coming school year.

A source at the meeting – who spoke on condition of anonymity – tells TLS the State has agreed “to cooperate to find a solution for an immediate and long-term relief” for the Lakewood district.

However, the source added, that although there was a commitment to continue negotiations, a solution has not yet been formulated.

“As such, there is still no concrete plan in place to provide busing and we can expect many cars on the road come September. There continues to be a real need for the drill to commence.

As earlier reported, the drill, encouraged and supported by the Roshei Yeshivah and Roshei Mosdos, is set to take place Wednesday and Thursday. [TLS]

  1. one thing we do have is many schools in industrial park or Oak street. Why can’t they consolidate the routes so it will eliminate routes?

  2. we must show solidarity to our yeshivos, askonim and roshe yeshivos.

We will not be taken seriously if the actual bus protest does not take place. We have kept silent for too long. The direction for every family to not utilize the school bus during the am on Wed and Thursday is a civilized way of protest.

The democratic process is what the USA is found upon. Unfortunately since through the Democratic process of votes by legal citizens placed our voice on the boe, many who claim to uphold the law and to be democratic are now asking the state to come in and remove what the constitution has set in place. Unfortunately its an override of the democratic system. Lakewood, Rockland County NY , Five towns boe – have all been hit with the same vile accusations as the accusers prefer that we pay the bill via taxes and not receive the legal services.

There is a reason why all these districts have legaley voted and appointed boe members who do not send their children to public schools. For many years the lawful apportioned funds that were to be directed to the private schools fro services were miscalculated or outright hidden. This goes on all over the place unless we place our representatives on the board.

We all agree that to keep a civilized community one must have the best public school education. (obviously the parent body must be involved with their kids homework, communicate with the teachers…. for this to really happen). Atthe same time we the people who send our children to private schools cannot have this at a loss to our childrens needs. We have been footing the tax bill for too long, generating ecess amounts of tax funds for the state of NJ. Yet the state of NJ has not sent back the needed funds to help the education of ALL Lakewood Children.

Why are the no charter schools in Lakewood as an option for the public school system? Lakewood crime and gang activity is matched to cities such as Trenton, Camden, Asbury Park that do have charter schools? Charter schools allow children a second chance of becoming successful.

  3. while i truly appreciate every bit of help the state provides us with education. In reality they are getting away with murder with us,

If we would all unite & register for public school service for next year, I guarantee you the busing would be granted in limos!!

  4. Let’s see a exactly where the Approx Housing units, 2010 11,226 X $8000 (below) average = $89,808,000.00 of (2010) taxes are going?
By now with higher rates and more houses it is approximately $120,000,000.00

    Where’s the MONEY????!?!?!?

  5. #6. The Lakewood BOE budget (including all sources of money in and expenditures) is available online, for free from their website. better than asking where is the money, you should ask, how is it being spent, on what and who makes those decisions.
