As of 4:30 pm today the U.S. Geological Survey has officially designated the former Lake Ontario to be renamed as Lake America in all official USGS electronic documents.
The change will begin occurring in printed documents over the next several days.
This change has also been made official in the Geographic Names Information System.

It will always be Lake Ontario to me. The ingenious people named it. The rest of the world doesn’t have to recognize this new name.
Indigenous (they may also be ingenious, I don’t know). But yes, the Canadian province is names after the lake, not the other way around.

HOMES:
Humon
Ontario
Michigan
Erie
Superior
It’s only fitting that we now use the acronym of SHAME
It’s Huron, not Humon.
