The time had come to find a simple, do-it-yourself method of learning kriah so that children and teens (and even adults!) could teach themselves the step-by-step rules to reading properly without having to resort to the stigma and expense of tutors. The Kriah Nechonah program was enthusiastically embraced and has since been adopted by many schools throughout the country, not only for remedial teaching of Hebrew, but to test each student to ensure that the reading rules are being mastered with 100% accuracy.
Rabbi Uhr watched with great excitement as children and teens who had previously seen themselves as failures and dummies began to shine with the glow of achievement and confidence – they had learned how to read and were ready to master so much more!
