JUST IN – UPDATE: State to Approve Summer Food Boxes for Lakewood; Boxes will begin Next Week [EXCLUSIVE]

TLS has learned exclusively that the state will be approving the summer food boxes for Lakewood.

As earlier reported, the Lakewood Board of Education received a preliminary verbal confirmation that the summer food boxes would be allowed to continue throughout the summer, but a final state approval was still needed.

An official moments ago told TLS that the state will be signing off on the summer boxes tomorrow.

TLS has also learned that the food box distribution will begin next Wednesday, July 13, and will take place at the public schools on Clifton Avenue, as well as on 7th Street.

All children ages 0 to 18 years old will be eligible for the boxes as well as special needs adults up to 21 years old. The boxes will contain 10 meals, for both breakfast and lunch for five days a week.

When contacted by TLS, General Counsel Michael Inzelbuch stated, “I can not discuss until the State announces tomorrow. But I will say that the elected members of the Board of Education, with G-d’s help, were very instrumental in a good development to be announced tomorrow that will help our public and nonpublic kids. I can’t state anything else for now.”

  1. This is a terrible thing as it is we are paying enough for food now we will pay even more so this stuff can get paid for this is horrible we must vote in the Republicans and get rid of these stupid Democrats that want everything to be for free and everyone will be living like pulpers

  2. Where are askanim when we need them? Why couldn’t anyone fight for us to get cards with money allotted based on family size to, to be used in groceries, where we can choose what to buy? Instead we will receive boxes where a nice amount of items will be going in the garbage and a couple individuals in Lakewood become wealthy off of this. The government is spending millions of dollars on this, a huge shame that it can’t be useful for every family by allowing people to purchase foods that they actually eat

  3. How about free school lunches for us middle class earners who are squeezed. On top of the 20%+ tuition increase next year our school is now also charging for school lunches that mu kids don’t touch.

  4. No more prepared foods, please. Grocery items, such as fruit, vegetables, yogurts, milk, cheese, etc. are most appreciated. Of course, EBT cards are ideal.
