The all clear has just been given after swatting calls targeting public schools in Howell and Wall Township this afternoon, TLS has learned.
Officials tell TLS that all students in Howell were placed in lockdown while authorities worked to verify the situation after receiving a threatening call.
Following an investigation, police determined that the call was a swatting incident, and the lockdown was lifted after the all clear was given.
Officials tell TLS that swatting calls are unfortunately sometimes part of a competition among kids to see who can draw the largest response from emergency personnel.
UPDATE: Statement from Wall Police Department: “Wall Police is working in conjunction with the school staff. We are aware of recent phone threats made toward local schools. At this time, there is no immediate danger to students or staff, and these appear to be part of a series of “swatting” incidents (false reports designed to provoke an emergency response).
The Wall Township Police Department is actively investigating the calls. There is currently no credible threat to the safety of our schools or community. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as law enforcement works to ensure our schools remain safe.”

I’d be in favor of swatting bad drivers!
