UPDATE 2:27 a.m.: More details in shooting released:

“At approximately 9:40pm, Officers responded to a gathering at the Brook Road Sports Complex after receiving a phone call from a woman who stated that she was headed to a hospital with a gunshot victim. The unidentified caller did not provide any additional information. While in route, Monmouth Medical Southern Campus Hospital called and stated that several gunshot victims has just been dropped off.

Upon arrival at the Sports Complex, Officers located an additional victim, with an apparent gunshot wound to his leg. The 28-year-old Englishtown man was transported to Monmouth Medical Southern Campus by Lakewood EMS.

Officers arriving at the hospital observed a small crowd of party goers in the lobby of the emergency room. Once inside they were advised that a 30-year-old women suffered a gunshot to the abdomen and a 53-year-old man and 24-year-old man each suffered a gunshot wound to a leg. All three of those victims are from Lakewood. The 30-year-old woman and the 53-year-old man were both transferred to Jersey Shore Medical Center for further evaluation, while the other two remained at MMSC Hospital. All are expected to survive.

In addition, a vehicle believed to have transported at least one of the victims was left abandoned in front of the Emergency Room. Further investigation resulted in the recovery of a firearm.

Officers at the park began questioning those present to try and locate potential witnesses. As a result, 25-year-old Jahquan Fenn, of Lakewood, was arrested after Officers discovered a firearm he was trying to conceal under his leg while he was a passenger in a vehicle that was trying to leave. In addition, two females, 21-year-old Donaysha Peace of Waretown and 20-year-old Sanaya Smuoone of Lakewood were both charged with the possession of a controlled dangerous substance and another firearm was located on the ground between two parked cars. No one has been charged with that at this time.

Assisting with the investigation is the Monmouth Medical Southern Campus Hospital Office of Security and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department Crime Scene and K9 Units. Additional support was received from both the Howell Township and Jackson Township Police Departments. Anyone with information is urged to contact Det. Oscar Valmon at 732-363-0200 ext. 5347.”

FYI Lakewood Police is not responding to non-emergency calls due to being overwhelmed. I called to report a noise violation and that’s what they told me.

Amazing. They are all so busy that there is not one officer to come tell the people who have a band with loudspeakers blaring music at 12.20 am to stop. Is there anyone in town who can help??????

Its a big problem in Lakewood, the same houses every weekend, if the cops would start issuing a summons the problem would stop. the rule should be if cops are called to a home more than once in 90 days they get an automatic summons

Why do you need to complain about the band? We have purim and make noise. Why not let them have their time to make noise

Their “Purim” is every other Saturday night and on the off weeks it’s a different neighbor trying to wake up the dead with their music.

I personally have not heard Purim music blasting past midnight.

To South side; leave them be. . . Let them enjoy the night. Do they party often? If the answer is no let them enjoy. . .

If the music persists we won’t have the gift of hearing. Please explain to me how I can put earplugs in my 6 month and 2 year old children. I can’t speak for “south side”, but this is about my children not being able to sleep… I have no problems turning on the fan to block out the noise.

Real deal

It is highly likely that Jews were not the peeps at this get together. Probably the usual suspects. Too bad the Star Ledger only sees the bed in some Jews, while giving other groups a free pass because SL doesn’t want to hurt the other group’s feeling. For the record I am not a Jew.

This happens to be the type of news we ARE unfortunately accustom to. Those that transgress do not care about anyone’s “feelings”, and that includes any group that they represent, or are a part of…right down to family and loved ones. The assailants here, are no exception and rule profiling.

No indication of terrorism or antisemitism. That is a relief…if shootings have any positives at all! Wishing the victims a speedy recovery too.

Thought these parks close at sunset, so why are ppl in the park at 10pm?

James Brandon

The Township used to have night security that closed the parks at Night and they eliminated that back in 2009.

You’re worrying about the wrong thing. So what the music was loud, the park was still open.People were shot.At least no one was killed.I live in Baltimore and right now the homicide rate is 209 ppl since the year started. The problem is getting these guns off the streets.Hope everyone has a speedy recovery.
