JUST IN: Multiple Frum Residents Among Candidates Being Screened for Lakewood Township Committee [UPDATED]

Multiple Frum candidates will soon be screened as possible choices for the Lakewood Township Committee, TLS.

With Committeeman Michael D’Elia not expected to run, there will be two seats up for grabs – with the other being the seat of Mayor Ray Coles.

Both republicans and democrats will be putting up two candidates each.

On the democratic side, Coles is expected to run for reelection, along with Township employee Jimmy Espezito.

Screening for the republican seats at tonight’s Republican Club meeting, will be Moshe Raitzik, Yaakov Bendkowski, Bruce Stern, Mike Berman, and Debbie Fuentas.

Raitzik, who has served as Chairman on the Lakewood Shade Tree Commission, the Lakewood Planning Board, Municipal Alliance board and the Lakewood Board of Education, was originally a republican but switched parties in April of 2011 to become a democrat. During that time, he ran as running mate to Ray Coles several times. In 2020, he switched back to republican.

The five-person Township Committee is currently comprised of three republicans and two democrats.

The Primaries take place in June.

UPDATE: The screening committee picked Debbie Fuentes and Bruce Stern to be the Republican candidates for Township Committee.

  1. The town would be best served by someone that does not know who does the screening. It’s time we get someone “clean” on the township committees.
