The Lakewood Cheder School, the largest school in Lakewood, has announced an adjustment to its academic calendar, with the upcoming school year set to begin earlier than usual at the request of the Vaad Hachinuch.
In a notice sent to parents, the school confirmed that the final day of classes for the 2025–2026 school year will be Thursday, July 9. The next school year, 2026–2027, is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, August 19 – approximately one week earlier than in previous years.
Despite the break being the same length as other years, parents are encouraged to take note of the updated dates and plan the summer break accordingly.

Who is the Vaad Hachinuch?
Let kids be kids or they’ll figure out how to do it on their own. Kids belong in the sun grass and water during the summer. No rebbi teacher or principal sat in school during July and August. It’s a fact!! We need to create a schedule where the girls and boys have off the same week b4 and after camp not cut out summer vacation!!!! So now for sure no families can go away as a family. Does the cheder think if they do it everyone will follow??? Like bais faiga thinks???
What about kids going to camp that have to come home early or else miss the first few days of school?
sleepaway and many daycamps ending earlier also either august 13-14 as elul zman starts then
Actually, this has been the way it was here in Lakewood for decades since I was there…
Good question
Whats wrong with the truth I wrote ??? Why don’t you post it?????

Yeshiva Ohr Shraga Veretzky is doing the same BH
Lakewood is becoming socialists
Looks like most lkwd schools will be doing the same .. there not cutting the amount the boys have off there just changing dates
Exactly so the boys will have off 1 week btwn “yeshiva camp” and day camp and then another week off after day camp before yeshiva starts again. And the girls have a totally different schedule. How do the schools expect parents to pay tuition if they can’t work 4 weeks during the summer. Between the boys and the girls. You can’t always find appropriate arrangements for kids for random weeks.
What is point of this
Orchas Chaim is doing the same
Actually, they are not adding any school time, nor are they changing the status quo.
Lakewood has always ended boys schools and started with a 5-6 week break, from close to Av till a bit into Elul.
It has started to become challenging on a year before a leap year like this one, since english staff will not work till Sep, due to playgroup schedules etc. and to have 2 weeks of half-day school is not so ideal. So the Cheder proposed pushing school end till Rosh Chodesh Av, and starting closer to September. This was a new solution and it would help the school staffing (english teachers, secretaries) tremendously.
Nevertheless, the Cheder’s Daas Torah (and I know what’s going on) said it is not right to start so late into Elul, so the Cheder (and most schools) are rolling back to the old system which has been in place for decades.
Lakewood Cheder Students To Set Their Clocks One Week Forward During Month of August When ‘Classroom Savings Time’ (CST) Begins
When Classroom Savings Time (CST) officially commences in the middle of August, Lakewood Cheder Students will be setting their clocks one week forward and returning to school from their Summer vacations one week earlier than last year.
“We’re trying to infuse the students with more classroom instruction,” said Lakewood Cheder spokesman, Allen Clocksburg. “Our students are suffering from classroom deprivation syndrome, and we aim to fix that problem by moving the students’ clocks one week forward so we can shine more educational rays of light upon them.”
Lakewood Cheder student, Akiva Shnitzelman, told reporters on Tuesday that he’s okay with the clock change “as long as the clocks also get moved one week forward towards the end of the school year.”
Thanks again for the useless comments.
most boys sleep away and day camps will have already finished the week before because of an early chodesh Elul on aug 12.
My boys always had this schedule
Now can we have the girls schools do the same thing? On that LONG break before school starts, the girls are literally roaming the streets and hanging out in the ice cream parlors, etc till all hours of the night. Definitely not a healthy מצב by any standard of חינוך.
