A construction worker was struck by a vehicle this morning in Jackson, suffering serious injuries, TLS has learned.
The accident happened around 7:00 AM this morning at the intersection of Whitesville Road and East Veterans Highway, when an elderly driver struck the worker at a construction scene.
Officials tell TLS the driver reportedly told responders that the sun was in his eyes and he did not see the worker or a truck blocking the roadway.
The injured worker sustained a leg injury and a possible head injury, and was transported by ambulance to Monmouth Medical Center in Lakewood for treatment.
Authorities have established a detour in the area as crews continue work on the roadway.
The project is expected to remain active for several hours throughout the day, and motorists are urged to avoid the area.

I am not familiar with this accident.
In general if the sun is blinding you, you need to slow down.
I didn’t read that he was speeding.
If the sun is blinding you, you need to go slower than the speed limit.
Llights would be seen even if sun is shining in eyes. This is one of the reasons to have car and bike lights on even by day. It may be a good idea for construction zones too.
Morning sun is no excuse not to see bright yellow lights; the elderly man must have extremely poor vision, he should not be driving at all until he gets his cataracts successfully removed, or if he already had them done he needs to quit driving.
Also: If the morning’s blinding sun was that bad why did he continue moving blindly , he should have immediately pulled over with his flashers on to adjust the vehicle’s sun visors in the needed position; but he continued driving even though he couldn’t see.
Someone whom does Motor Vehicle eye exams in Boro Park tells me that he gets 90 year olds constantly whom are as blind as can be offering him a few extra bucks to pass them, he throws them out, he says not even for a million dollars.
