Joe Sullivan Has No Business Being On The Zoning Board | G. Sonnenfeld

Guess who’s back. It’s Joe Sullivan. Which Joe Sullivan? The one who secretly attended and participated in a CUPON meeting in which he and others discussed ways to block Jews from developing land in Jackson Township. That bombshell forced Sullivan to resign from his positions on Jackson’s zoning and rent control boards, as well as from the Economic Advisory Committee.

It should be noted that sources have told TLS that upon first being confronted about the CUPON meeting by former Council presidents Rob Nixon and Barry Calogero, Sullivan said that he didn’t participate in the meeting. The audio of the meeting released by TLS proved otherwise, and he reportedly resigned from his positions because he would compromise the integrity of the boards he was on.

There have also been allegations of Sullivan working with the township’s Environmental Commission to take steps making it difficult or impossible for Jewish development projects to move forward.

Furthermore, Sullivan also celebrated a deal being hammered out between Jackson Township and their Orthodox Jewish residents falling through. Based on his track record, I can assume this man is no friend of the Orthodox Jewish residents of Jackson Township.

But now, Sullivan is trying to get himself back into Jackson politics. With the appointment of Nina Borrelli to the Jackson Township Council, Joe Sullivan would like to take his soon-to-be-vacant position on the zoning board. TLS has obtained his application for the position, which can be read below.

Sources tell TLS that Sullivan didn’t unilaterally decide to apply for the position – he received a wink and a nod to go ahead with it from several high-ranking officials in Jackson. For all the progress Mayor Reina claims to be making with the Orthodox Jewish community in Jackson, a man whose alleged bigotry has already been clearly exposed is now being invited back into the fold to make decisions that will affect Orthodox Jews – the very same ones he has targeted in the past.

If Sullivan is appointed to Zoning Board, it will be another shameful low for everyone involved. Instead of working towards reconciliation and harmony, the Jackson Township leadership has shown, over and over again, that they care for only some of their residents: those that aren’t religious Jews.

  1. A bored basement dwelling hater. Make no mistake he is a hateful spiteful person. How can he be on a zoning board. He has never even owned a piece of real estate in his life. Has never bought a house even. I wouldn’t even deem him a true Jackson stakeholder.

  2. Joe is a useful fool that the Jackson GOP uses to do its work. He threw a tantrum once and will do it again when he doesn’t get his way. A useful idiot and pawn of Richard Egan.

  3. I am sure he is not against Jews. No one is. Just against traffic and all the building. Its awful. I am not against any religion or group of any kind. But the amount of building going on now in Jackson is awful. I sat at a light by Hope Road yesterday 5 times to go to the left. Thats nuts. I like Jackson very much but I do not want to see it turn into Lakewood. Not because of the Jews or anyone else. The traffic…..Everyone must be fair. The building is out of control. I very much believe in my religion and my faith. Its everyones right to be what they want to be. I have nothing against anyone. But the amount of building is what is upsetting. Please eveyone must think of others no matter who you are..

  4. You do not print what others have to say. This is not free speech. print everyone’s views. The traffic and the amount of building thats going on is out of control. Fact.

  5. Janet A Wood, I’m sure you aren’t a hater of any kind, and your points are very valid. But, the building that is going on isn’t being done for fun, it is necessary to prevent a housing crisis. As it is prices are outrageously expensive.
