Joaquin becomes Hurricane, Could Strongly Impact New Jersey

joaquinAs earlier reported, Tropical Storm Joaquin has become a Hurricane, and threatens to hit New Jersey, according to the National Weather Service.

“Joaquin has strengthened into a hurricane and while there is still much uncertainty in its path, people along the U.S. East Coast should monitor the National Hurricane Center and local NWS forecast offices, as well as local media, for the latest updates and be sure to have a plan in place should Joaquin threaten their area,” the service stated on its Hurricane Center page.

The Hurricane could hit the East Coast later this week, into the weekend.

oemMeanwhile, a Hurricane Warning was issued for the Bahamas, where Joaquin could gain power of over 100 MPH winds after it hits the Bahamas, according to the Service.

The NJ OEM is asking New Jersey residents to be prepared in case Joaquin hits New Jersey.

  1. Too early to be alarmed because the path is so uncertain but I guess we may have to take down our succas Friday if the forcast stays on track. otherwise the debris could become airborne projectiles and damage houses etc.
