Along with those who are spiritually protecting Eretz Yisrael, we need those who are physically protecting Eretz Yisrael. The least we can do is keep them in mind in our tefillos and say tehillim for their safety . This is our hakaras hatov to these brave young men who venture out into the cold and the dark, leaving behind the warmth and light of their homes, where their anxious parents daven for their safe return.

I am sure everyone is aware that Rav Chaim Shmulevits stated unequivocally during the Yom Kippur War that the status of the soldiers in the IDF was equivalent to that of the Harugei Lud (Sichas Mussar page 457).
