On Thursday, September 3, Parshas Nitzavim-Vayeilech, a historic Chanukas HaBayis was held for the new Rofeh Cholim Cancer Society (RCCS) building in central Yerushalayim.
RCCS, founded by R’ Hershel Kohn nearly 30 years ago, is renowned worldwide for supporting thousands of Jewish families facing serious illness, providing comprehensive medical, financial, and emotional assistance.
Based in New York, RCCS opened a branch in Yerushalayim about 15 years ago. Though it began on a smaller scale, it quickly became a vital resource for families in need. As the number of patients has grown each year, the organization has steadily expanded its lifesaving work.
To meet the myriad of unique needs patients and their families experience when coping with illness in Israel, a major initiative was launched: establishing a medical center on Sarei Yisrael Street in Yerushalayim. The new facility will bring various service departments together under one roof, enabling RCCS to raise and broaden its medical support and services offered in Eretz Yisroel.
Many distinguished donors from the United States who partnered in the project traveled to attend the dedication. Among them were the building’s patron Reb Beri Weiss, and his brother-in-law and partner, Reb Ari Weiss, in whose honor the building is named the “Weiss Family Building.”
The dedication event was attended by many rabbanim and community leaders, who despite the busy period before Selichos and the Yomim Noraim, made time to come and personally thank the organization’s administration and partners for the profound impact RCCS has on their kehillos, neighborhoods and communities.
Several Rabbanim, Roshei Yeshiva, and Admorim addressed the gathering, often sharing stories of how RCCS has helped families they are personally close with.
During the event, founder R’ Hershel Kohn shared that over the past year, RCCS has assisted more than 7,000 families of cholei Yisrael worldwide, including 2,700 in Eretz Yisroel. He stressed the need to continue expanding so that no one is ever turned away, and expressed hope that with the coming of Moshiach, the organization will no longer be needed.
The event concluded with spirited dancing and heartfelt brachos from the attending Gedolei Yisrael for the continued success of RCCS, and for the speedy refuah and yeshuah of all cholei Yisrael.
