New Jersey health officials are reminding residents to get the flu vaccine if they have not yet done so, as they say cases of influenza in the state has risen dramatically over the past few weeks.
A new report released by the NJ Department of Health says that the state’s flu activity is now considered “widespread”- a level above “high” – after cases of the flu doubled in just one week.
New Jersey has already had over 800 cases of the flu reported state-wide, and at least one pediatric death has been reported. So far, the US as a whole has reports of 19 flu-related deaths.
In New Jersey, northwest, central-west, and southern parts of the state are currently being hit hardest by the flu. Ocean County has so far been spared the brunt of it, but officials say cases can become more prevalent as the flu season reaches its peak.
The CDC’s media relations department developed a “recipe” for influencing more people to get the flu vaccine. You can check it out by googling “Gary Nowak CDC recipe.” In the meanwhile be prepared to hear the media use such words as “deadly” “most severe” “worse than last year” etc.

Please be aware that multi-dose vials of flu vaccines as well as the single dose vial of Fluvirin flu vaccine have mercury in it. Mercury was classified as a neurotoxin by the EPA.
