Hatzolah Confiscates Radios From Children Interfering With Their Emergency Frequency

Radios from several children were confiscated last night after they interfered with Hatzolah’s Frequency, TLS has learned. The children, ages 12-13, were using their purchased radios to program Hatzolah’s frequencyand then communicated with one another through them. Their transmissions were tying up the first aid squad’s frequency, and posing a danger by interfering with the communication between members and dispatchers, a Hatzolah member tells TLS.

Realizing the potential hazard, Hatzolah’s radio programmers worked to track down the source of the problem, and found three boys – in different areas – using their frequency for their own pleasure. The radios were confiscated.

A member tells TLS the radios will be returned to the parents, on condition they are not used in such a dangerous manner again.

Hatzolah members tell TLS there’s an increasing problem lately with children as young as 10 years old walking around with radios programmed to emergency channels, and then run over to sometimes dangerous and unsecured scenes.

Hatzolah urges parents to ensure their children are not using their ‘toy’ radios for such activities, which could have dangerous consequences. TLS.

  1. Shouldn’t it be required to have a license or only be able to access a radio if you are part of an emergency organization. At the very least emergency channels should be blocked to outsiders without a passcode or such.

  2. Lakewood needs to get digital radios like lakewood pd has nyc hatzolah is geting it very shortly it will be to expensive for kids to purshase digital radios

  3. I guess you know how other emergency services in Lakewood feel now when people are playing with their frequencies as well..its not a game when it prevents important information from getting passed on via radio systems. Everyone needs to understand that.

  4. Why are scanners Mutter and kids being on the internet is Ossur? What? Now parents allow kids to do anything they want as long as there wasn’t an Asifa about it?!?!

  5. This happens on the lcsw channel everyday even during calls kids are trying to Interfer and play with the radios putting responding Lcsw members in danger

  6. Ny hatzolah is not going digital quicker then Lakewood Hatzolah! When the law requires u to use only digital Lakewood Hatzolah/ Ny/ Lcsw and all other departments will go digital which will be happening soon!
however when that happens digital radios will then be affordable just ,like radios are now

  7. Going digital won’t matter someone will get the frequency and override it and then give it out…too many people want to know what is going on all the time..it endangers all the emergency responders in town. I once saw a 13 yo boy with a handheld scanner that told me no matter what happens to the frequencies he will find out, because someone will tell him and he can get his scanner set up.
Its just dangerous..all these kids running around with scanners and radios…they are going to get someone hurt or get hurt themselves..i saw a kid a couple weeks ago with lights on his bike like I have in my truck That is scary

  8. who gives anyone the “right” to put the community at risk? Maybe we need an asifa to encourage common sense, to teach parents how to say “no” to their children, and for all of us to learn how to have a sense of responsibility. Hatzolah personnel puts itself out for all of us every minute of every day and that’s what gives it the “right” to confiscate private property.

  9. To #22: While that’s true and very serious, that’s not the worst; the worst is when Hatzolah is trying to reach a house where someone is having a heart attack or stroke, c”v, and can’t get the address because some idiot kids are tying up the lines, putting people’s lives in immediate danger!

  10. These same kids have been monitoring the Fire Dept for a long time, no one ever complained, I guess it’s because it’s only the Fire Dept.

  11. Why do the parents allow these kids to purchase the radios in the first place. The blame needs to be placed on the parents of these children. I thought and expected alot better from this community, its a shame this is happening. Parents need to be held accountable for the childrens act.

  12. Why are there so many more idiots in this town? It used to be that people knew all this common sense stuff without even having to discuss it, Its degrading that this is current news.

  13. 1.The Kids are idiots!
2.Hatzolah has no right to take their private property, unless they feel that is m’din rodef, as this kids can potential cause someones death by tying up frequency.
    3. The Parents who let their kids use scanners and radios need their heads examined.
    4. There has got to be a way to encrypt or hide emergency response communications! What do SWAT teams or the Army use to keep their radio comm, safe?.
    Enough said.
