HATE: Authorities Investigating Anti-Semitic Graffiti at Chai Lifeline Construction Site in Jackson; Updated With Comments From Local Officials [PHOTOS]

Authorities today are investigating hate anti-semitic graffiti found at the Chai Lifeline construction site in Jackson.

Yesterday, TLS reported that crews began clearing the land for the new Mega Chai Lifeline building.

In response to the news, dozens took to social media to spew hateful comments about Jews and against Lakewood in general. (TLS permanently banned numerous users as a result.)

Today, crews found lumber spray-painted with anti-semitic graffiti, which read, “Is this for Jews,” and more.

“Today, our hearts were both horrified and deeply pained by the discovery of anti-Semitic graffiti at the construction site of the future home of Chai Lifeline New Jersey in Jackson,” Chai Lifeline New Jersey Director Rabbi Sruli Fried told TLS. “This reprehensible incident stands in stark contrast to the values of acceptance, kindness, and community Chai Lifeline holds dear.”

He added, “Chai Lifeline calls upon community members, leaders, faith-based organizations, schools, and businesses to stand with us in condemnation of this act and all forms of hatred. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the local authorities for addressing this incident, Jackson Township Mayor Michael Reina, and to the countless community members who have shown support.”

Rabbi Fried says the incident will not deter them, and they look forward to the completion of the project.

“We look forward to the completion of our new Chai Lifeline New Jersey home and opening our doors and inviting the community to join us in a place where love, support, and acceptance are the cornerstones,” said Rabbi Fried.

“I am saddened, disappointed, and, frankly, deeply angered by the discovery of horrible anti-Semitic graffiti at the site of a new addition to our community,” said Jackson Mayor Mike Reina.

“For those who may not be familiar with Chai Lifeline of New Jersey, they provide programs and services to children and families struggling with life-threatening pediatric illness such as cancers that affect so many young children. They’ve complied completely with our municipal zoning, planning, and approval processes.

They’ve obeyed every law and township request. And this is the welcome they get?

Make no mistake, the Jackson PD and other agencies will bring the full resources of their departments to holding the perpetrators) of this despicable vandalism accountable.

Still, those with the spray paint are not the only ones responsible for this hateful act. Those who sit comfortably behind a screen and spew ugly divisive comments on social media gin this hatred up, pit neighbor against neighbor, and stoke the flames of violence.

Enough is enough.

Those of us with the true best interest of Jackson at heart will continue to move this town forward with unity, respect, and welcoming to all. I urge everyone in town to join us.”

In a statement of his own, Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles told TLS that the Jackson incident is in addition to another similar act which occurred in Lakewood today, leaving him angry and sad.

“There were incidents of Anti-Semitic graffiti found in Lakewood and Jackson today. I alternate between bouts of anger and sadness that our residents have to be assaulted in this way,” Coles said, adding that authorities are actively investigating.

“Our police department and detective bureau are actively investigating these incidents. If anyone has any information about theses incidents, please contact the Lakewood Police Department,” he said.

In a statement of his own, Jackson GOP Club President Mordy Burnstein said he stands with all local officials “in condemning such acts  of hatred,” adding that there must be “zero tolerance for such despicable acts.”

“Sadly, this unfortunate incident did not occur in a vacuum,” Burnstein noted.

“In the hours preceding the vandalism, agitators within our own Jackson community spewed hateful rhetoric across social media regarding this specific site. Hateful rhetoric on online platforms has real-life ramifications, as we so tragically witnessed today. We must all do more to ensure that such bigotry is expunged to the fullest extent possible.”

  1. “Is this for Jews”
Turns out it was written by a Chabad Shaliach hoping to help a Yid put up a mezuzah when the building is completed.

    • When a Chai Lifeline official responded to the Chabad official by spray painting a message on the construction site saying, “Thanks, but we already have the mezuzahs and people to help us put up the mezuzahs”, the Chabad Shaliach spray painted a response message back to him saying: “Okay, but I can also help you put on tefillin if you’ve never done that before. Trust me, it’s not as difficult as it looks. Spray paint me your email address or cell phone number if you’re interested. And don’t forget to spray paint me your hat size. The retzuos have to fit your head, right?”
