Construction is underway at Lakewood Airport for 30 plane hangars, the LIC said.
As previously reported on TLS, the Lakewood Industrial Commission (LIC) has entered into a long-term agreement with the Township that will enable the Commission to construct 30 hangars – in three buildings with 10 T-hangars each.
Airplane owners will be able to rent the hangar space from the LIC to house their planes and to work on them in a protected environment. Deposits for almost all available hangar space have already been received.
Robert Kirschner, chairman of the LIC, said, “Lakewood Airport has seen steady growth paralleling that of the surrounding Lakewood Industrial Parks.
“Local airplane owners, patrons of the Lakewood Airport, have expressed avid interest in the past about leasing hangar space at this airport. The LIC determined that the construction of the hangar buildings would enhance the overall use of the airport and contribute to the growth of the airport, and the industrial and commercial uses that surround it.”
Future plans for the airport may include a new terminal building to replace the current structure, a restaurant, and an observation deck to offer better views of the air traffic activity at Lakewood Airport. Funding for these projects would come from land sales under federal guidelines. Public financing, loans or bonding are not expected to be involved with any of these future projects.

“Public financing”. Hmmmm sounds like more taxes.
Nice. Been wanted this for a while. Best part of it is that us local residents to not foot the bill,
Number 3, what do you mean that local residents aren’t paying for it? This is coming from money granted to the LIC from sales tax that is supposed to be used for economic development.
Benefiting 30 airplane owners, most of whom don’t live in Lakewood, does not benefit the towns economic development.
keyword is “Future”
its money from the FAA not local taxes
The ppl using the hangars are paying rent. I’m in training for a private licence and may take ownership of an airplane now that there is where to hold it.
Would be great if they made it possible for commercial airliners to land there
Just wondering;
If you know how the lic works you would not have questions. It’s not from your tax dollars so calm down.
Lakewood n12 airport is an faa airport. Lic partnered with faa from its own funds to better the airport. Also, what difference does it make if these plane owners live in Lakewood. They are paying rent – just like half of the industrial park business owners who don’t live here.
I actually was part of one of the brainstorming meeting with the lic and their plans for the airport. They have great plans and there is no doubt that a better equipped airport will benefit Lakewood as a whole. Maybe not you in particular…. but welcome to community life. It’s about a bigger picture and not just you.
