For many women, an old shaitel sitting in the back of a closet may no longer seem useful. But through a special Lakewood chesed initiative founded by Adena Parnes, that same shaitel can be transformed into a beautiful source of dignity, confidence, and joy for another woman.
Adena, an experienced shaitel macher with more than 20 years in the field, launched the initiative in loving memory of her father, a”h, who passed away seven years ago. What began as a meaningful tribute to his neshamah has grown into an extraordinary project that has already helped hundreds of women obtain beautiful shaitels.
“Over the years, I noticed how many women had good shaitels sitting unused,” Adena explained. “At the same time, there were women who desperately needed a shaitel but could not afford the cost of purchasing a new one. I realized that with the right system, we could bring the two together.”
Every donated shaitel has the potential to be given a fresh life. With Adena’s professional knowledge and careful attention, donated shaitels can be evaluated, refreshed, and matched with women who will proudly wear them.
For the recipients, the impact extends far beyond appearance. A beautiful, comfortable shaitel can restore confidence and help a woman feel dignified during an already challenging time. For the donors, it is an opportunity to turn something that is no longer being used into a deeply personal act of chesed.
Hundreds of Women Helped

Each donated shaitel represents much more than hair. It represents one woman helping another, a family receiving relief from a major expense, and an everlasting zechus for Adena’s father’s neshamah.
