A girl in Lakewood was just inches away from serious injury – or worse – when she was nearly run over this afternoon after crossing against a light.
The incident happened on Cedarbridge Avenue several seconds after the traffic light turned green for drivers.

This person tried to cross 4-5 lanes of two-way traffic AGAINST A GREEN LIGHT.
The driver should be commended… The pedestrian needs some remedial traffic law courses. Wow.
she started before it became green for the drivers, as you can see, but there is reason for the buffer time in between. And especially on a bsuy, wide road..
Boruch Hashem! I do not blame the girl, she started crossing at her intersection before the light changed and the cars at that light were waiting for her to cross. The dashcam car sped up from his intersection in the right lane and was not able to see why the cars ahead of him did not proceed yet. He also was going quite fast as it shows in the video. I recall from years ago that some localities have rules that a car is not allowed to pass on the right at intersections for the very reason there might be people still crossing. Of course, it is always worthwhile to be mindful to get across the intersection before the light changes. Let us all be a bit more patient as we drive. we will get to our destination exactly when Hashem wants us to!
The driver was on the right lane. He did not pass anyone on the shoulder.
The drivers that waited for the girl should have honked her to go back and wait or they should be looking out for oncoming traffic or side cars coming from other lanes. If they gave her the illusion that she can cross by waiting for her, then they need to take responsibility for the other potential risks involved.
I see this many times even when its a one lane, if you let someone cross in a time/place they shouldnt, then you need to look out for other cars (even those that wrongfully pass you because they dont know why you stopped)..
Light was green when the car was a block away which means the girl was extremely stupid and ran across as it turned green. In no locality are you not allowed to drive in the right lane at intersections, that is just stupid.
OMG that was terrifying!!! no child that age should be crossing such a busy street alone!!!
How old do you need to be? Also, how old do you think she is?
Play stupid games win stupid prizes. Don’t cross the street against the light. Don’t cross when cross light is yellow either.
Why was the driver racing along at 44 miles per hour?
Because the speed limit is 40MPH.
The driver didn’t do anything wrong. The girl needs to be thoroughly educated on how to cross the street properly.
Actually the parents need to be educated on raising children safely.
That would be best! Actually crossing the street with their kids a few times, at the corner, with the green light in their favor, looking while crossing, not starting to cross when the light is about to change green for the drivers. Have an easy & meaningful, taneet.
mamash a miracle

Maybe this is why the speed limit city-wide in NYC is only 25 mph, even on Ocean Parkway where there may be less risk of incidents involving pedestrians. Plus the City has speed cameras operating all up-and-down Ocean Parkway giving tickets once a driver hits 36 mph. What does Lakewood know that NYC doesn’t that permits the former to have a speed limit of 40 mph? This girl was almost killed, l”r. Yes, its awkward sometimes to have to travel so slowly, just like getting stuck behind a school bus that’s constantly picking up/dropping off right in front of us. But we come to grips with it because after all – its Yiddishe kinder going to learn how to grow up to be proper Yidden; is any different when the child is walking to school? Thank you for listening.
Respectfully, it doesn’t matter what the speed limit is for the traffic flow.
It is definitely the parent/parent’s full responsibility to physically teach their children to cross safely. Have an easy & meaningful fast.
