Former President Trump is set to return to the Garden State for another rally next month after the City of Wildwood Board of Commissioners approved an agreement with the Republican National Committee for a May 11 campaign rally.
The planned rally would be the former president’s second in the area, where he first held one back in January 2020, which was attended by thousands of supporters.
The 2020 rally was held in the Wildwoods Convention Center, which only had capacity for about 7,500. However, the upcoming rally is scheduled to take place on the Lincoln Avenue beach, potentially allowing as many as 40,000 people to attend.
Prior to his last Wildwood rally, New Jersey Rep. Jeff Van Drew, who will also appear alongside the Trump next month, said that the Trump campaign received approximately 100,000 ticket requests.
In a media interview earlier this year, Trump said that assuming he wins the 2024 Republican nomination for president, he will make a “heavy play for New Jersey,” adding that he is “going to do rallies … going to do speeches,” but conceded he “may be foolish in doing it.”
“Very importantly, New Jersey. I think New Jersey can be flipped,” he said more recently.
In the 2016 election, Trump lost the dark blue state by 14 points and lost it again in 2020 by 16 points.
The last time a Republican candidate won New Jersey in a presidential race was in 1988 when George H.W. Bush beat Michael Dukakis, winning with 56.24% of the vote.
However, in the southern portion of the state, the former president remains extremely popular.
In the 2020 election, Trump won 82.25% of the Lakewood vote, his widest margin for any town in the state, while receiving 63% of the vote across Ocean County.
The rally is tentatively scheduled for May 11 at 7:30pm and more information will be released by the campaign in the coming days.
Perhaps we can accommodate his large Jewish vote and have it not on Shabbos.
He’s only concerned if the Frum can sit on the jury for his criminal trial. Not so much about rally attendence.
He can only have rallies on Shabbos, that’s the way the judge set him up.
