Former News 12 reporter Alex Zdan announced this morning he is seeking the Republican nomination for a U.S. Senate seat in New Jersey currently held by Bob Menendez.
“I’m not a typical politician — boy, am I not,” Zdan says in his campaign announcement, which was filmed from the U.S. border with Mexico. “But I’ll fight like hell every day for you, your family, and our American future.”
As a reporter, Zdan gained respect for his hard-hitting questions of politicians on both sides of the aisle, and especially of Governor Phil Murphy during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Governor Murphy’s wife, First lady Tammy Murphy, is now seeking the Democratic nomination for the same seat.
New Jersey has not elected a Republican to either of its U.S. Senate seats since 1972 – the longest active streak of all states other than Hawaii.
Who is this person? Why have I never heard of him before?
He was a reporter on News12. He interviewed many people that are involved with politics.
How does being a reporter make him qualified for the Senate?
How does anyone here in NJ qualify. What a sad state of affairs.
You are right!!!! It is very sad that we don’t have any qualified candidates.
